Survivor Week 3 Board Check: The Board Moved, the Re-Run Favors Buffalo, and the Second Ticket Switches
Thursday board check: Green Bay slid from −7 to −5.5 with Penix back and Parsons out while Buffalo got bet up to −7 — a fresh re-run favors the Bills (72.6%, 8.6% owned) over the Packers (~70%, 13.13%), so the ESPN entry switches, logged honestly as a deviation from the pre-committed rule.
The Wednesday brief went up with the ESPN entry on Green Bay and one pre-committed switch condition attached to it. The board has spent the intervening day and a half moving, and this morning the desk re-ran the second ticket from scratch. The re-run says Buffalo. The entry is switching, and this post is the record — including the part where we say plainly that this is a deviation, not a tripwire firing, because this column grades what it publishes.
What the week did to the board
Two teams moved roughly three points each, in opposite directions. Green Bay opened −7 and sits at −5.5 tonight (CBS) as Michael Penix's return priced in — his first start since November's torn ACL, after the Falcons scored eight points a game under Cooper Rush — and as the market priced Green Bay's short week: the Packers played overtime Sunday to escape the Jets 20-17, and defensive legs on four days' rest are a real tax (SI) (Action Network). Green Bay will also be without Micah Parsons (knee), which is the single biggest on-field change of the week: the Packers' pass rush was the mechanism by which a just-back quarterback was supposed to look rusty, and it is gone (Picks and Parlays). Meanwhile Buffalo opened −2.5 against the Chargers and has been bet up to −7 (ESPN) — the market confirming the read on an 0-2 Los Angeles team that has now died on the country's tickets two weeks running (PoolGenius).
Stack the two tickets side by side as they exist this morning:
| Win % | Yahoo own % | When | |
|---|---|---|---|
| GB vs ATL | ~70 (was 74.1 at −7) | 13.13 | tonight, short week, Parsons out |
| BUF vs LAC | 72.6 (bet up from −2.5) | 8.60 | Sunday, full week |
At publication, Green Bay was the better number on both axes — that is why the brief took it. This morning Buffalo is better on both axes. The flip is 2.6 points of win probability and 4.5 points of ownership, and the market spent the week pointing at it.
The switch, logged as what it is
The pre-committed tripwire — Rush at quarterback and the line below −6 — did not fire, and this morning's ruling stands as published: Penix is starting, so the rule's conditions are not met. What happened instead is the other lane this desk has always kept open: the board moved materially after publication, the owner directed a re-run before lock, and the re-run favors Buffalo. Both things belong in the record. The deviation has a price — a rule bent once is a preference, and Week 4's tripwire starts with less credit than Week 3's had — and the desk pays it knowingly, in writing, here. What the re-run buys: 72.6% instead of ~70%, less of the crowd, a full week's rest instead of a short one, and no more Thursday exposure. What it gives up: Green Bay goes un-burned into a schedule that gets harder for two months, and Buffalo's scarcity is spent now — the Bills may not be favored by a touchdown again until Week 11 (PoolGenius). The window argument runs both directions; the number argument only runs one. That is the case.
The portfolio, as it now stands
Both live tickets play Sunday at 1:00 PM ET: the Silver Bullet rides Kansas City at Miami (~85.2%, locked at −11.5), and the ESPN entry now rides Buffalo against the Chargers (72.6%, locked at −7). The games are independent, the differentiation survives — the two tickets are still on different teams in different stadiums — and the Thursday-lock risk that we priced in Wednesday ("we hold a Thursday ticket knowingly") is gone, ironically, by moving off the Thursday game. The bullet's tripwires are untouched: a verified Chiefs injury or a collapse back through −7 re-runs Sunday morning, and Buffalo is still the fallback — the two tickets live in different pools, and the same team may ride on both, as San Francisco did in Week 2.
One deadline, stated because it is real: the switch has to be entered before 8:15 PM ET tonight — the Green Bay selection locks at Lambeau kickoff, and a pick that locks is a pick that grades. After tonight: if Atlanta wins, the Week 3 grading opens with it, and we start by saying we moved off the team that lost — accurately, and with the luck labeled as luck. If the Packers win, the switch cost the 2.6 points and nothing more, and Green Bay goes in the vault for a later week. Either way the log is clean, which is the only thing in this business that compounds.
