Survivor Week 5 Saturday Check: The Tripwire Fires on Houston at the Close, the Market Swings 13.6 Points on New England, and the Final Card Locks NE, DET, NE

Week 5 Saturday check: Houston collapses −7.5 to −3.5 on a verified Saturday injury report and the pre-committed tripwire fires exactly as written; New England surges −3.5 to −8.5 on Las Vegas attrition and the engine re-run sends all three tickets to the Patriots; Detroit takes the late window; the national field puts 47.7% of its alive entries on one wounded favorite; and the doubling that decides two tickets at Gillette is named before kickoff, with the joint survival number said out loud.

The Week 5 card died at 6:45 p.m. MT Saturday, nineteen hours before the early kickoff, and it died by the rules. Houston — the engine's 1.38x pick, the best number on the board all week — lost fourteen points of win probability on a verified Saturday injury report, and the tripwire this desk committed to in print on Thursday fired exactly as written. What replaced the card is New England at the top of every ticket's re-run, Detroit in the late window, and one doubling across two pools that this post names in the open before a single Sunday kickoff. Sequence matters here: the rules moved first, the owner second, and both moves are published on this page in the order they happened.

The lines quake at the Saturday close

The tripwire that fired, and the one that didn't

Houston fired it. The pre-committed rule from Thursday's brief: below −5.5 or no-vig under 0.70 on verified news, and the pick re-runs. Nico Collins went from a full Friday practice to a Saturday DNP; Mixon and Pierce joined him; Schultz logged limited. −7.5 became −3.5, 77.7 became 63.1, and the rule did what it was written to do. No judgment call was made this afternoon — a sentence written Wednesday made it.

Cleveland did not fire it. The Jets held at −2.5, the armed tripwire (NYJ −3.0) stayed holstered. The owner moved off Cleveland anyway, as an owner-directed board re-run. This desk publishes the difference between a tripwire fire and an owner call every time it occurs, because a reader grading this card next week deserves to know which mechanism moved. Thursday this was Houston across two tickets. It is not anymore.

The meter after the massacre

Yahoo's national distribution, re-read Saturday evening, with Dallas's 52.6 percent now dead weight walking:

TeamMeterShare of the alive field
CIN (vs MIA)22.6247.7%
HOU (@ TEN)13.2928.0%
JAX (vs PHI)2.585.4%
DET (@ ARI)2.314.9%
CLE (@ NYJ)1.192.5%
NE (vs LV)0.701.5%

Three-quarters of the surviving national field rides two games tomorrow, and one of those two is the team that just lost its Saturday practice. The grimmest detail on the page: Houston's meter share rose 1.46 points after the collapse news. The public bought the dip on a wounded favorite the market had just downgraded fourteen points. If the Titans win tomorrow, a quarter of America's surviving entries die on a pick the market tried to warn them about at Saturday's close.

The engine, re-run on the new board

Conditioned inputs, stated in the open: Thursday's finals (Tampa Bay, Dallas) dropped as unpickable; each ticket's burned list loaded; Yahoo ownership per the house convention. The re-run landed NE on all three tickets:

TicketPoolBurnedEngine call
Silver BulletClassic III, 50 aliveSF, KC, MINNE 76.6%, 0.70% owned, fade budget 0.2pp; DET best alternative at 1.00x
Second Chance98 alivecleanNE identical
EliminatorESPN entryJAX, SF, BUF, SEANE identical

Board top after the quake: NE 76.6, DET 76.0, CIN 70.5, BAL 64.5 (the vault stays shut — a save you do not burn), SEA 64.5, HOU 63.1, GB 60.0. CIN prices at 0.92x chalk equity with a wounded receiver corps; the engine passes.

The number this desk passed at 8:28 this morning became the market's number by 6:45 tonight, and the honest chronology rides in the article. Saturday's board check priced New England at 63 percent against Las Vegas and passed — the loopline's Elo carried a raw 81 percent built mostly before this season, the cold-start clamp discarded it, and the desk sided with the market. Then the Raiders ruled three out, downgraded Jeanty, and lost Thornton, and the market swung 13.6 points toward the number the model had refused to log. The model was not right for the right reasons — its gap was last year's Raiders, not this week's injury report — but the direction it carried all week is the direction the close confirmed. The desk's own injury digest had the shape of it: Las Vegas priced at 4.5 points of damage against New England's 9.4, and Saturday's ruled-outs widened exactly that gap.

The tension, named before it matters: the market now prices a Patriots blowout; the form ledger says the Raiders covered all four weeks this season, outscored opponents by 31, and took Kansas City to 30 points in their only loss. A 63 percent team moved to 76.6 because attrition is real — and 76.6 is not 84. The doubling below carries that risk on purpose, at a price the owner chose with the number said out loud.

One board note: the Saturday move also dragged the Patriots into the teaser window — −8.5 teases down to −2.5, crossing both key numbers. The teaser engine, which declined this game at −3.5 this morning, gains a qualified leg at the close.

The final card

TicketPickNumberWindow
Silver Bullet (Classic III)New England vs LV76.6%, 0.70% ownedSun 1:00 PM ET
Second ChanceDetroit @ ARI76.0%, 2.31% ownedSun 4:25 PM ET
Eliminator (ESPN)New England vs LV76.6%, 0.70% ownedSun 1:00 PM ET

The deviations, listed flat: Houston off the Bullet and Second Chance — tripwire fire, mechanism written Wednesday. Cleveland off the Bullet — owner-directed re-run, tripwire did not fire. Minnesota off the Second Chance — owner-directed. New England doubled across two pools — permitted, disclosed, with the Week 2 San Francisco precedent: separate pools, same team allowed on both tickets. An all-three-NE configuration was priced for this discussion and rejected by the owner — one game burying every ticket is a binary this desk does not lock. The configuration space said so in numbers: the owner's Thursday-entered card joint survival was 15.3 percent; Friday's published card, 26.6; this card, 44.6, with the portfolio-dead scenario (one game killing everything) at 1.3 percent by construction.

Confirmation e-mails are on file: Classic III saved New England (Saturday ~7:24 p.m. MT) and Second Chance saved Detroit. The ESPN entry is owner-reported New England; the desk cannot see that page, and the owner verifies it on the entry page before the early window — same verified path the Week 4 Seattle pick used.

The grading pre-commit

If the Raiders win at Gillette, the Silver Bullet and the Eliminator die on one game. That sentence is paragraph one of Monday's grading, written on Saturday: the doubling named in advance, the 44.6 percent joint survival said out loud before kickoff, no renegotiation at the worst moment. If Detroit loses in the late window, the Second Chance dies. What will not happen is a silent edit, a retroactive tripwire, or an ownership number revised after the fact. The scorecard is the quality of logged decisions, and this one is logged in the most literal sense this desk owns: confirmation timestamps, mechanism attribution, and the owner's own signature on the configuration math.

Pre-committed checks stand: 10:00 a.m. MT Sunday, verified re-pull of New England and Detroit news; ESPN entry page verified before the early window. If the market or the injury report moves a ticket's number materially before lock, this page gets an update, not a surprise.
