Survivor Week 8 Brief: One Ticket Left — the Engine Fades Cincinnati's 80.0% and 40.22% of the Verified Field for Jacksonville at 79.6% and 1.20x, and the Second Chance Rides the Jaguars

Week 8 survivor brief: the portfolio is one ticket — the Second Chance, 3-0, in a pool verified Thursday morning at 45 alive of 300. Cincinnati is the week's chalk at 80.0% no-vig carrying 40.22% of Yahoo's live-read field. The engine's single-ticket call is Jacksonville at 79.6% and a 1.20x equity multiple — 0.4 points of win probability for a seat off the week's verified bus. The spend closes the shelf's second Thanksgiving door, published in the open. Green Bay tonight costs 16.5 points and the desk passes. Lamar trends back, which is save-positive. Tripwires pre-committed.

The portfolio is one ticket. Say it plainly, because last week it was two and the week before it was three. The ESPN Eliminator died in Week 7 — Houston at 80.4%, the desk's own card on both tickets, lost to the Giants in overtime, 6-1 final, and the grade is on the record. The owner's split saved the last one: Minnesota on the Second Chance, 16-10 over Indianapolis, 3-0, sitting in a pool this desk verified Thursday morning at 45 alive of 300 (pool page). Classic III, for the ledger, woke at 22 alive last week and woke this week at 4 — eighteen of twenty-two died on one Sunday, nine of them on the same Houston pick that killed our Eliminator. None of the four is us. The Silver Bullet stays dead. This brief prices one ticket, one pool, one number.

Tonight: Green Bay, priced and passed

Carolina at Green Bay, 8:15 PM ET, the Packers a 3.5-point favorite at 63.1% no-vig, 2.89% of the verified field. Green Bay is available on the Second Chance shelf — it is burned only on the two tickets in the ground. The guaranteed seat tonight costs 16.5 points of win probability against the Sunday call below, and it buys zero information the Saturday check does not already guard. This desk has passed every Thursday since Week 5; only one of those passes carried a stated price — Week 5's, 5.4 points. This week's, stated the same way: 16.5. Nobody decides anything tonight.

The board

Market-implied win probabilities are de-vigged from DraftKings moneylines via ESPN's scoreboard feed, pulled Thursday morning. One board hole, printed because holes are information: Tampa Bay's moneyline is off the board at DraftKings — the home side of Atlanta–Tampa Bay will not be quoted, which is the market's way of saying the quarterback question from last week is not answered. No price, no candidate. The desk's audit rule — it prints any moneyline-spread disagreement over four points — prints nothing this week. Everywhere the market quotes both, they agree.

The meter, read live by this desk

The Yahoo distribution fetched directly Thursday morning — no owner paste required this week, and the two fetches returned identical rows. The page shows 28 rows, sums to 99.98, and the four bye teams (Houston, New Orleans, the Giants, San Francisco) are properly absent. That is the verified-read checklist, and this week the desk ran it on its own. The meter's shape: Cincinnati 40.22, New England 16.78, Jacksonville 16.55, the Rams 10.52, then scraps. Two weeks of freeze history (Weeks 5 and 6, both documented in this space) keep the Friday re-verify tripwired below.

The budget: 13.6 points, and the first real fade of the one-ticket era

Against an 80.0% chalk owned by 40.22% of the verified field, the fade budget scales to 13.6 points at 45 alive. The engine's best alternative is Jacksonville: 79.6% at 16.55% of the field, a 1.20x equity multiple. The fade costs 0.4 points of win probability — three hundredths of the budget. This is not the breakeven shape of Weeks 6 and 7, the 1.00x seats where survival probability was the only argument and this desk said so in print. One week those seats died (Indianapolis) and one week they saved the portfolio (Minnesota, a 23.7% branch that paid). This week's fade prices positive on the verified overlay, and with one ticket left there is no portfolio math to weigh against it. The multiple is the whole argument.

The desk's card is the engine's card: the Second Chance takes Jacksonville — 79.6% no-vig, −10 home against Indianapolis, 16.55% of Yahoo's field, Sunday 1:00 PM ET. The honest case against, priced in the same frame: 80.0 beats 79.6, and if the number is all you trust, Cincinnati is the number. The case for the fade is not the team — it is the bus. Two of every five verified entries in America ride the Bengals this week; one in six rides the Jaguars. The pools we sit in keep disagreeing with the nation — Week 7's Second Chance grid showed Houston at 37% of filed picks against Yahoo's 28.68 — so the Saturday read below grades this fade at the real denominator, and the number publishes either way.

The shelf consequence, printed because it is real

The Thanksgiving save ranked Baltimore first and Jacksonville second on this shelf's reach — the Jaguars host Tennessee in Week 12, the second projected giant of that thin board. Spending Jacksonville now closes that door. What remains of the save on this shelf is Baltimore at Houston, alone, and the save piece's own tripwire says weekly value yields to the weekly brief with the Week 12 re-run priced against real numbers. This desk publishes the spend as the deviation it is. What the spend buys: Cincinnati stays unburned at 80.0% for the thin November boards, the same logic as last week's split, compressed into one shelf across weeks — spend one giant now, keep the other.

The save: Lamar trends back

Jackson missed three straight with the ankle. This week the reporting turns: he is expected to face Buffalo on Sunday (DAZN, Oct 28) (Sports Illustrated, Oct 27), with the Ravens' own messaging still conditional — and SI notes a second offensive injury brewing in the same week. Baltimore is a 3-point underdog at Buffalo, 39.6% on the board above. Why it belongs here: the save is Baltimore at Houston in Week 12, and a save with its quarterback walking practice is a better save than the last three weeks produced. The vault stays shut. The weekly re-price continues.

Tripwires, pre-committed

  1. Jacksonville (Second Chance): if Jaguars–Colts re-prices through −7.5 (no-vig under 0.74) on verified news, or the starter's status changes on the Friday or Saturday reports, by Saturday 6:00 PM MT, the pick re-runs. Fallback ladder: Cincinnati (80.0), then Dallas (73.4). A retreat to the chalk publishes as its own deviation, same rule as every switch this season.
  2. The pool read: the Second Chance grid gets pulled Saturday (counter plus any filed distribution; the pool hides current-week picks until games start, the documented behavior). If the filed field stacks Jacksonville at or above Cincinnati's national share, the fade grades −EV at the real denominator and the desk says so before kickoff; if it stacks Cincinnati, the fade was +EV where it counts. The number publishes either way if it is material.
  3. The meter re-verify: Yahoo froze on Weeks 5 and 6 and cost this desk mornings. Friday's read re-verifies before any further number gets printed.
  4. Save-health watch: Lamar's return, itemized above. A watch item, not a tripwire — no surviving ticket holds Baltimore, and the Week 12 save re-prices weekly until it is spent or dead.
  5. The board hole: Tampa Bay's moneyline returns to the board whenever the quarterback question answers. No desk ticket is within reach of it. Printed for the record.

The operational line

The Jaguars get entered by hand at MyOfficePool and the save gets verified before Sunday 1:00 PM ET — the site has pick-entry bugs documented in this space, and the entry page is the only truth. The pool's own header has drifted again: it now displays a "$5,000 Third Chance NFL Cowboy Fan Survivor" title, the second rename this season. The constant is the entry — p=6087, the saskpoly row, Detroit, Kansas City, Minnesota in the history column and alive. There is nothing to file on Classic III or the Eliminator, which remains the loudest line in the log.

For the standing record: the desk is +27.45u since September, 98-86-9, Brier 0.2396 across 193 graded predictions as of Sunday's pool autopsy — the number a stranger can cite, kept current at every publish.

The card, restated: Second Chance — Jacksonville, 79.6% no-vig, −10 home against Indianapolis, 16.55% of the verified field, an engine fade of the week's bus at a 1.20x equity multiple, at a published fade cost of 0.4 points against Cincinnati's 80.0. If the Jaguars lose, the last ticket dies at 79.6% and the grading opens with the fade on the record — it was +EV ex ante, and luck gets labeled luck. If the Bengals lose while Jacksonville wins, two of every five entries in America die on one afternoon and the last ticket rides a shrunken board into November. Both branches were priced before kickoff. That is the whole point of printing them. Bring a pencil.
