The Cleanest Bet in Football Starts Wednesday: We're Covering NFL Survivor All Season

SaskPoly is covering NFL survivor pools all season: a weekly Wednesday brief with the slate, the chalk, the fade budget, and the pick, plus an honest Monday grading post.

Wednesday night the Patriots kick off against the Seahawks, and somewhere around ten million people will stare at a list of 32 teams and pick one. No spread. No total. No parlay. Just: this team wins, or you're done.

That's the NFL survivor pool — the cleanest bet in football, and as of this season, it's a full beat at SaskPoly.

What we're doing here

We're not going to give you "5 SNEAKY picks your league doesn't want you to know." We're building something better: a system, and the honesty to show you its work.

The system is already live. It pulls market lines from the NFL's betting markets, strips the vig, and turns moneylines into real win probabilities. It pulls the public pick distribution from Yahoo so we know who the crowd is riding. And then it does the one thing most survivor advice skips entirely: it weighs your pick against the field. Because in survivor, the safest team is rarely the best team — if 40% of the pool is on the Chargers and the Chargers lose, half your competition dies with them. That's not luck. That's leverage, and it's arithmetic.

Every week this season you'll get two posts from us:

  • The Brief (Wednesday): the slate, the chalk, the fade budget, and our pick — with the number, the why, and the risk, written before kickoff.
  • The Grading (Monday): what actually happened, how the model did, and how much of the field survived. Including the weeks we get it wrong. Especially those.

On top of that, we'll be covering the contests where this format gets serious — DraftKings Survivor, Circa's $20 million monster, and the rest — and the people who play them: the champions, the proxy services, the syndicates, and the famous fades that made survivor history.

A taste of Week 1

The full brief is live, but here's the shape of the problem.

The market says the Chargers are the safest team on the board this week — about an 81% chance to beat Arizona. They're also the most popular pick in the country, north of 30% of the public. Riding them means surviving with a third of the field. Losing them means you're done in Week 1 with everyone else.

Right behind them: Jacksonville (~77%) hosting Cleveland, and Detroit (~72%) hosting New Orleans — each owned by roughly half as many people.

Is one win-probability point worth 10+ points of ownership? Our model says that math is closer than the crowd thinks. The full answer, the fade budget, and the pick are in the brief.

Why trust a process instead of a hot hand?

Because survivor is a resource problem wearing a football costume. You have 32 teams and up to 18 weeks. Burn the Chiefs in September and they're not there for you in December when the board is empty. The people who win these pools aren't the ones with the best Week 1 pick — they're the ones who planned Week 12 in August.

So that's the season we're building toward. A pick engine with its math in the open. A weekly scorecard we keep even when it hurts. And a book coming soon — Smart Bet Field Guide: NFL Survivor Pools — for anyone who wants the whole framework in one place.

The pick posts with the Wednesday brief. Kickoff is Wednesday. Bring a pencil.

Follow the weekly briefs all season. If the process earns it, tip the work — it covers data feeds and the coffee required to stare at NFL schedules until 3 AM.
